Project Examples

  • Sample Project 1: We worked with a large plastics manufacturer to understand the origin of cloudiness/haziness in one of their products. When process conditions changed slightly, the optical clarity of the final product suffered. We used mesoscale modeling (polymer Self-Consistent Field Theory) to propose the hypothesis for the root cause of this defect (phase separation of one of the minor components). The client used these results to redefine and improve their process.
  • Sample Project 2: We worked with a mid-size plastics manufacturer to provide them with a literature review and summary White Paper on the fundamentals of failure in semi-crystalline polymers. The client then used the White Paper to influence their choice of academic partners for long-term collaboration.
  • Sample Project 3: We worked with a startup company to understand the impact resistance of their polymer coatings. A fundamental physics-based model was developed, tested, and calibrated to describe the relationship between the impact resistance and the coating thickness and chemical composition.
